Transfer Credit
Transfer Credit Award
With some limitations, students may be granted credit for courses completed at other accredited colleges and universities that offer courses comparable in credit and content to those offered at City Tech, provided satisfactory grades were received (generally a “D” or better at any other CUNY unit; “C” or better at other institutions).
If a course was taken on a pass/fail basis at another CUNY institution, the official transcript or catalog contract year must state that the pass grade equals a “D” or better for transfer credit to be considered. If a course was taken on a pass/fail basis at an institution outside CUNY, the official transcript or catalog contract year must state that the pass grade equals a “C” or better for transfer credit to be considered.
This excludes coursework from outside of the United States.
To earn an associate degree and qualify for associate honors at City Tech, students must complete a minimum of 30 credits in residence; 15 must be in the major department. The remaining credits needed to complete the degree may be transferred, provided they are approved for credit by NYCCT.
To receive credit for courses taken at other accredited colleges and universities, students must have official transcripts on file in the registrar’s office. Student copies will not be accepted. All foreign language transcripts must be accompanied by a notarized affidavit attesting to the accuracy of the English translation. When credit is granted from another institution, the grade does not generate quality points toward the cumulative grade point average.
Transfer Credit Evaluation Appeal
Students may appeal a transfer credit evaluation, by submitting the required form to the chair of the department offering the equivalent course, or in the case of general education courses, the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, with a copy sent to the Transfer Office. The department chair/dean will review the appeal and submit a final recommendation to the Transfer Office. If this appeal does not resolve the issue, you can appeal directly to CUNY by clicking here.
Please click here more information on the Transfer Office.
Note: To avoid financial aid issues, students should submit the transfer credit appeal as early as possible, ideally with sufficient time for evaluation prior to the first day of their initial semester at City Tech. Appeals will not be accepted after the first semester of a student’s enrollment at New York City College of Technology. The college accepts no responsibility for the student’s failure to submit the appeal in a timely fashion.

Pathways for Transfer Students
Common Core
If a student fulfills a Common Core requirement at one CUNY college and transfers to another CUNY college, the requirement will count as fulfilled.
Students who have earned a bachelor’s, associate in arts, or associate in science degree from a regionally accredited and recognized institution of higher education and who transfer to another CUNY college will be deemed to have automatically fulfilled the Common Core requirements for a CUNY degree. For complete information, please consult CUNY’s How Credits Transfer website.
College Option
Students earning a second bachelor's degree and/or transferring in with a prior earned bachelor's degree are deemed to have automatically fulfilled the College Option.
Students transferring with an earned associate degree are required to take only 6 credits of the College Option:
One course in speech/oral communication (COM 1330 or higher) Note: If COM 1330 or higher already fills a category in the flexible common core, add an additional liberal arts course from outside the major
One interdisciplinary (ID) course or seminar
Students who transfer in more than 30 credits but do not have a prior degree must take 9 credits of the College Option:
One course in speech/oral communication (COM 1330 or higher) Note: If COM 1330 or higher already fills a category in the flexible common core, add an additional liberal arts course from outside the major
One interdisciplinary (ID) course or seminar
One additional liberal arts course from outside the major
Students may transfer College Option credits earned from other CUNY campuses to fulfill City Tech's College Option. City Tech may also transfer credits from non-CUNY campuses that have been evaluated as fulfilling the College Option requirements.
Second-Degree Students
A student who has already received an associate or bachelor’s degree from NYCCT will receive credit toward the second degree for all applicable courses successfully completed at NYCCT. A student in continuous attendance may simply submit to the Registrar’s Office a Change of Curriculum form. If there is a break in the student’s attendance at the College, however, a readmit application must be filed for second-degree status.

College Credit – Disclaimer Statement
Licensed private career schools offer curricula measured in clock hours, not credit hours. Certificates of completion, i.e., school diplomas, are issued to students who meet clock hour requirements. The granting of any college credit to students who participated in and/or completed a program at a licensed private career school is solely at the discretion of the institution of higher education that the student may opt to subsequently attend.
